EDUCATION & TRAINING
NRLC is committed to developing conservators and restorers for the country through training, and to educating professionals working in museums, archives, libraries, archaeological departments and other institutions responsible for the stewardship of collections. A separate training institute dedicated to training and skill development in conservation — the NRLC Training Institute — was set up in 2011 at Jankipuram, Lucknow.
UNESCO recognised NRLC long ago as a training centre for conservation professionals from South and South-East Asian countries, and many have since been trained here. Training programmes are also held at NRLC in association with the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), Rome, and other international bodies.
NRLC runs a regular six-month training course every year, along with short-term specialised workshops and refresher courses for practising conservators and restorers, as well as workshops on the care and maintenance of collections for curators and other collection custodians.
A sprawling new campus housing the training institute, a hostel-cum-guest house and a 250-capacity auditorium came up at Jankipuram, Lucknow in 2013 — since which the scale of NRLC's training activities has increased many times over.
