The National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC), established in 1976 under the Ministry of Culture, is the premier organization for research in conservation of cultural property including monuments and sites, as well as museums, libraries and archive collections.

NRLC achieves its mission through scientific research, education and training, field projects, collaborations and dissemination of information through articles in journals, conferences, workshops, publications and public participation.

The conservation laboratory is equipped with adequate infrastructure and specialized laboratories for material analysis and testing, developing sustainable conservation solutions for cultural heritage.

NRLC conducts research on material composition and art-making techniques, develops methods to slow down deterioration and prevent further damage, provides information on causes of deterioration and treatment options, and assesses the performance of conservation treatments.

Over the years, NRLC has developed expertise in the conservation of manuscripts, paintings, archaeological materials, monuments and other cultural heritage resources. Its conservation projects contribute to the preservation of India's rich cultural heritage for future generations.
